What do I like to feel when
I am home (in the office, etc.)
How do I lounge and relax?
Are there specific task
requirements for the space/home/office?
How do I like to entertain
friends and family, business associates, will I continue in the
future?
What is the size of my
family? Circle of friends?
How long will I be using
this space or live in the home, office? 5yrs.? 10?
Do I need an overall
plan that I can work with to accomplish the project over time?
What do I really like:
colors, style, trendy? classic? specific experience with any environment
you prefer, even if not exactly possible to duplicate ? Get out
all of your ideas, do not let any restrictions come into play just
yet; that stops the creative process...there is plenty of time to
get into parameters later.
What do I need? Again,
use no limits. Process as you think about every aspect of how your
space would be best suited to you!
Which ideas are core values
and which are passing fads, styles, interest?
What do I dislike? What
rules this thought? “I grew up with…”
There is eventually a
need to come together with the design; where priorities will be
set. I always tell my clients "the first ten decisions are
the easiest" After that everything is relative, literally!
What is a must that I
need to make me feel that I have achieved my goal?
Do I understand the idea
of jointly achieving a stronger solution based upon my ideas? Often
a very strong idea or opinion is actually the foundation upon which
we expand to integrate input from all parties and a chance for what
I call a quantum process.
Maintenance is always
a consideration. Unless you love the care of your precious acquisitions
(the maintenance part of the equation) you will want to use this
as one of your ruling paradigms.
What items will you bring
to the project that are investment pieces; of value or not...except
to you? It is important to design a space or home that reflects
all that you are and love!
How big or small is the
project? What is the scope and scale of the project I am considering?
Do not understate the importance of the project parameters no minimize
it's scale out of fear. Anything can be cut back or redesigned to
fit. Keep your mind open!
What type of design services
do you need for your project? Professional expertise in color consultation,
floor plans, kitchen/bath design, redesign family areas? MBR bedroom
layout? Architectural renovation? New furniture?.....New home?
What type of design is the project? New
construction, renovation, remodel, redesign, streetscape, or landscape?
What is my budget. The
realistic true cash dollar amount that I have available and what
if there is a 10-15 per cent overage? Long term cash project?
